#PutinKills Elaine Teoh and Emiel Mahler
Finance workers Elaine Teoh and Emiel Mahler based in Victoria, Australia have been remembered as “beloved” staff at IG Australia. Ms. Teoh was Malaysian and Mr. Mahler was Dutch.
In a statement, IG Australia sent its condolences to the families of the pair.
“IG Australia wishes to send its deepest sympathies … to the families of our colleague and former colleague Elaine Teoh and Emiel Mahler,” it said.
Elaine and Emiel, both 27, were on their way to a wedding in Malaysia, which never happened…
Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down on July 17, 2014, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew on board. The incident is the deadliest airliner shootdown incident to date. The crew was all Malaysian and about two-thirds of the passengers were Dutch while many of the other passengers were Australians and Malaysians. Germany, Canada, Belgium, Indonesia, New Zealand, Philippines and the UK lost their citizens as well. Eighty of the passengers were under the age of 18.
It was a scheduled international passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. It crashed near Torez in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine, 40 km (25 mi) from the border.
The crash occurred during the ongoing war in Eastern Ukraine, in an area controlled by the Donbass People’s Militia. The plane was shot down by pro-Russian insurgents using a Buk surface-to-air missile fired from the territory, which they controlled.
An independent analysis by Bellingcat of open-source evidence indicated that Russian-backed separatists were in control of a Buk missile launcher on 17 July and transported it from Donetsk to Snizhne. Two parallel investigations are led by the Dutch. One is into the cause of the crash, and a second investigation is a criminal inquiry. The technical report will be released on October 13, 2015 while the criminal investigation could extend into 2016.
Chapter 8 of the report “Putin. War” based on the materials from Boris Nemtsov is devoted to the shootdown of MH17.
In July 2015, Malaysia proposed a UN resolution to set up an international tribunal to prosecute those suspected of being behind the downing of the plane. While the proposal gained a majority on the UN Security Council (11 countries voting for it, 3 abstaining), it was vetoed by Russia.
#PutinKills – because Putin started the war against Ukraine, denies Russia’s direct involvement into military operations in Eastern Ukraine, and illegally annexed Crimea. He is guilty in thousands of deaths in this conflict, the displacement of millions of people, in equipping separatists with weapons including the BUK that shot down MH17 flight, in lies about this tragedy in particular and in launching a global propaganda war.
Act now! Join our campaign to tell people that #PutinKills!
