11 Years of Free Russia Foundation

Supporting Freedom and Democracy

Free Russia Foundation was established on December 2, 2014. Eleven years have passed since that day, and throughout this time we have remained unwavering in our support for those who fight for Russia’s democratic future, defend human rights, and preserve the independence of civil society in the face of pressure, censorship, and violence.

During these years, our community has grown into a resilient international network that supports activists, experts, and initiatives committed to resisting autocracy and war — both inside Russia and across the region.

Authoritarianism in Russia is not just a domestic problem. It has become a transnational threat that the Kremlin seeks to export, undermining the sovereignty and stability of neighboring countries. For this reason, we support Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia’s unlawful war of aggression, and we stand with the democratic movement in Belarus, whose citizens continue to face repression under an illegitimate regime.

Over these 11 years, we have not only carried out impactful projects — we have also witnessed the power of solidarity. Together with our partners, supporters, and the broader pro-democracy diaspora, we have overcome barriers, provided protection to those at risk, and built initiatives that strengthen democratic resilience.

This journey reminds us that freedom requires constant effort. Every independent initiative, every voice raised against repression, every act of courage matters. And we do not back down.

Today, as free expression in Russia is silenced and anti-war voices face increasing danger, it is more important than ever to support those who stand for peace, dignity, and fundamental rights.

We thank everyone who has walked with us over these 11 years — partners, colleagues, and friends around the world. Your solidarity makes our work possible, and our commitment remains as strong as ever.
